It’s ultra Glossy – Clear finish will never crack, chip, or flake because it creates a hard, yet flexible bond with the headlight lens.
It has a low vapour, No smell formula – And because it’s applied by hand (not sprayed) it’s safe around Children – Pets – Adults and neighbouring cars.
AND of course – it’s safer for the Planet as well!
WHAT WE DON’T USE…
Why we don’t use Spray – On Clear Coatings
As a spray painter I’ve worked in many areas of the industry..
- Automotive
- Industrial
- Signage
- Furniture finishing
So, it’s fair to say I’ve used a lot of paints in varied applications.
So when it was time to decide on which UV coating I would use in our MOBILE headlight restoration business – Ceramic Coating was a Clear winner over paint.. Here’s why.
As a Mobile Headlight Restoration service, we work everywhere..
Homes – Workplaces – Shopping Centre Car Parks – Schools – Childcare Centres
Which means we work in open air alongside parked cars, around children, pets and other people going about their day to day.
So spraying a polyurethane clear coat paint designed for use in a controlled space such as an Automotive Spray Booth – In the open air, presents many hazards. Here’s some of them:
- Paint overspray drifting onto other cars (also on the car being worked on)
- Inhaling harmful (carcinogenic) vapours can cause headache, Skin and eye irritation to passers by and/or children and pets.
- Polyurethane Clear Coat paints are highly flammable, Making them hazardous in open air, and during transportation from job to job.
Spraying polyurethane clear coat paint in open air releases Harmful chemicals such as Xylene and Isocyanates into the atmosphere, Contributing to the break down of the earths (UV inhibiting) Ozone Layer, Allowing intensified UV radiation through to the Earths surface.
The same UV radiation that causes headlight lenses to deteriorate!
Ok, So What Causes It?
Unlike glass.. Bare Polycarbonate plastic is susceptible to ultra violet (UV) radiation, it’s also highly impact resistant making it perfect for headlight lenses. BUT at the same time, It’s softer than other plastics, which means it does scratch easily.
So, to combat this the manufacturer applies a clear coating to the NEW lens which does three things..
1.Provides UV protection.
2. Resists Scratching and
3. Looks awesome on the showroom floor!
As the car ages (around 3 to 5 years) the ‘Factory’ coating begins to break down, becoming visible on the lens.. Turning yellow, Cloudy or even flakey in severe cases.
Maybe you’re seeing one or more of these indicators on your headlights right now..

People ask me all the time if I can ‘Get the moisture out’.
The fact is I’m never on site long enough to do it.. So here’s a few things YOU can try if you’re ever faced with moisture inside the headlight.
- FIRST, Locate your breather tubes (at the back of the headlight) and check them for blockages.
- Remove your main headlight lamp from the housing and leave the car in a dry space for 1-2 days – This will allow air to flow in to dry up the moisture. (Best done when not using the car for a few days)
NOTE: You can speed up this process by directing WARM air in through the same lamp hole using a hair dryer on LOW HEAT, But use extreme care when doing this.
WARNING: NEVER blow HOT air from a heat gun or hair dryer directly onto the Lens of the headlight.. Polycarbonate plastic will craze and crack instantly when hit with direct heat.
