FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why have my headlights gone cloudy or yellow?

From the moment your car left the factory, harmful UV radiation and other environmental factors such as salt air and road grime have set about breaking down the protective coating applied to the front of the polycarbonate (plastic) headlight lenses. This happens to all modern cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles and is most noticeable at around the 5 year mark of their lifetime.

Is the damage on the inside or outside of the lens?

In nearly all cases, the damage is on the outside of the lens which means the restoration can be done on the car without the need to remove the headlights. Sometimes, there may be evidence of visible dust particles on the inside of the headlight. This is usually due to either the dust caps not being re-fitted to the back of the headlight after replacing globes, or in extreme cases the seal between the headlight housing and lens has broken down over time or been tampered with..

How long does the headlight restoration last?

Like all things car related, maintenance is the key to keeping them at their best, and how long your car spends outside in the harsh Sunshine Coast environment will have a huge impact on how long your headlight lenses retain full clarity.

Is there a more permanent solution?

Everything has a reasonable life expectancy.
Just think how old your car was when you first noticed the headlights turning yellow or cloudy.
BUT, when you choose the “Premium Lens Polish Service” your headlights get the added protection of our UV Ceramic Coating, with 12 month warranty!

My headlights are pretty bad... can they be fixed?

In a word… Yes!
We have restored many headlight lenses thought to be too far gone. But if you have doubts, we can always do a free online assessment of your headlights – speak with us to find out how.

Can I just buy brighter globes to increase the light?

Of course this is an option, but it will not fix the issue. In fact, it will exaggerate it! Let me explain… Imagine a light in your kitchen which has a 40w globe in it that you replace with a 100w globe, much brighter right? Now place a diffuser over the light – now the light is softened and dispersed around the kitchen instead of being directed in one area. The same happens to your headlights when the lens is not clear. Instead of the light being focussed correctly, it is diffused. Resulting in drastically reduced lighting.

What if I don't have my headlights restored... Is it illegal?

If your headlights are cloudy or yellow in appearance, chances are they will not pass Roadworthy in Queensland. Dept. of Transport and Police regularly check vehicles for Roadworthy Compliance, and if headlights are found to be be an issue this could result in a hefty fine along with a vehicle default notice.
